My name is Asif Ali and I am PhD student at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the Slovak Academy of Science. I am from Pakistan. I received my Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in the field of Materials Engineering- Ceramics from the Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, KPK Pakistan. After that I spent a couple of years teaching physics, Mathematics which strengthened my fundamental understanding of physical principles and their application in materials research. During my Master studies, I worked on functional oxides by synthesizing simple and complex compositions with a Perovskite structure for a potential application in the X9R Types capacitors. I worked on various functional oxides materials for their potential applications in electronic components, capacitors, and energy storage.

In Slovakia, my research has expanded to high-entropy oxides, with a specific emphasis on their thermoelectric properties and potential applications in energy conversion technologies. My work involves understanding structure–property relationships and optimizing material performance through compositional and structural design.

In 2025 I received a JECS-Trust grant from ECerS for 3 months visiting the Department of Materials Engineering, University of Novi Sad, Serbia, to measure the Thermoelectric performance of the high-entropy Perovskite oxides at high temperature. This visit contributed to strengthening my international research experience and collaboration in the field of advanced ceramic and oxide materials.

I first heard about YCN in my laboratory and was immediately thought about how an impressive initiative it is. I had the pleasure of meeting first YCN representatives during ECerS conference in Dresden 2025 where I was truly amazed by the organization and the strong community fostered by YCN. I am certain that I want to continue attending ECerS and YCN events in the future, and I am proud to be a part of YCN for the 2026-2027.  look forward to contributing to the growth of the ceramics network and expanding our collective knowledge in this dynamic field.
