School of Physics, University of Hyderabad
My name is Jeevankumar Pallagani, a doctoral candidate in Condensed Matter Physics at the School of Physics, University of Hyderabad, India. I have completed two Master's programs in nanotechnology (M.Sc.) and environmental nanotechnology (M.Tech.) at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad.
During my academic journey, I focused on synthesizing nanomaterials like CeO2 and CuO through green synthesis, hydrothermal routes, and their applications in water purification. This period involved extensive exploration of nanomaterial characterization and the fabrication of porous materials. Subsequently, I joined as a project staff in an industrial-sponsored project titled "Gelcasting of tungsten carbide/cobalt Composite parts" by Insmart Systems Ltd., Hyderabad, India. Over the 18-month project, I gained expertise in CAD design, 3D printing, gel casting, and the fabrication of ceramic components such as alumina, zirconia, and WC/Co.
In my doctoral research, I am dedicated to fabricating intricate shapes using the Rapid Prototyping Gelcasting (RPGC) process and additive manufacturing techniques. This work focuses on high-temperature ceramics, porous structures, piezoelectric materials, and ceramic matrix composites with the aim of developing advanced materials suitable for biomedical, high-temperature, and aerospace applications.
I had the privilege of participating in the ECerS summer school at INSA-Lyon and the XVIII exhibition and conference in Lyon, both of which were truly enriching experiences. Attending these events, along with the YCN student night, provided me with opportunities to meet esteemed researchers and professionals in ceramics and additive manufacturing. The offerings provided by ECerS for young ceramists, including travel grants for conferences and summer school (of which I was a beneficiary) and funding for mobility and events, were truly remarkable.
The YCN events served as an excellent platform for connecting with fellow young ceramists, expanding my network in a relaxed and informal setting, often accompanied by food and drinks, enhancing the overall experience. While an academic career can be challenging, especially near deadlines, the fulfilment derived from discussions with individuals who share similar goals but bring diverse backgrounds, expertise, and personalities is invaluable. YCN stands out as a fantastic network that brings together young researchers from around the globe.
Drawing upon my positive experiences with YCN, I hope that other young researchers in India can also avail themselves of these opportunities and become part of this exciting network.

Interface Engineering: High-Temperature Interactions Between High-Entropy Ceramics and Metals.
My research explores high-temperature interactions between high-entropy ceramics (HECs) and metals, with a focus on joining strategies for extreme environments. By understanding how metals wet and react with these advanced ceramics, I aim to design reliable interfaces for applications such as composites, coatings, and ceramic joining with functional properties. This work contributes to improving the performance and durability of materials used in demanding industries such as energy, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing.
