Hi everyone! I am Chenyi, a master student at the Erlangen-Nürnberg university. I study materials science and biomaterials is my focus.

In 2019, I finished my bachelor degree in polymer materials and engineering in Shanghai, China. The internship experience in Axalta Coating company inspired me a lot then I decided to go aboard to further deepen in the field of materials.

Since 2020, I have started master program in materials science in Germany. In 2023 I did an Erasmus program in biomedical engineering for six months in Rome. When I come back to Germany to continue my study, I am so attracted by bioactive glass. After that I start my master thesis with the topic of 3D-printed scaffold with mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGNs), which exhibits significant enhancements in pore volume, specific surface area. To synthesize MBGNs sol-gel is used because the processing temperature is low and has higher homogeneity and be formed in multiscale porosity over melt-derived products. In order to give a mechanical and biological support for example for bone defect, a scaffold is fabricated as extracellular matrix through 3D printing. However, usually synthetic polymer could provoke an immune response in human body. Therefore, in my thesis I will combine polycaprolactone with MBGNs together to improve the biocompatibility and bioactivity and osteoconductivity.

I am lucky and honoured to be selected as representative for China and could have opportunity to meet people in the field of ceramic materials all over the world. For me it is the best chance to step into a more professional world. I am looking forward to meet you in the future!

YCN Newsletter 31 - Event Overview - Ceramitec 2026 by YCN Committee member Petar Kotevski

YCN’s participation at ceramitec 2026 in Munich from 24th to 26th of March 2026, represented a key step in strengthening ties between young ceramic professionals, academia, and industry. The exhibition provided an international setting where research, innovation and industrial application converge, enabling meaningful engagements. Our main objective was to position YCN as an active interface connecting early-career professionals with industry leaders.

Interface Engineering: High-Temperature Interactions Between High-Entropy Ceramics and Metals.

My research explores high-temperature interactions between high-entropy ceramics (HECs) and metals, with a focus on joining strategies for extreme environments. By understanding how metals wet and react with these advanced ceramics, I aim to design reliable interfaces for applications such as composites, coatings, and ceramic joining with functional properties. This work contributes to improving the performance and durability of materials used in demanding industries such as energy, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing.
